XO Earrings | Day 9 | 12 Days Shopping Fair Trade

January 30, 2020 by Sarah Neufeld Leave a Comment

It’s a common signature; x’s and o’s. They are classic symbols that represent love, care and affection.

These earrings from Karama Collection add subtle chic to any look. They can be given as a sweet romantic gift (nudge-nudge, hubby, wink-wink).

They can serve as a reminder that we are loved and thereby prompting us to show love to others.

In Nairobi, three artisan women are employed in the crafting of these earrings from metals and beads. Through Karama Collection, their lives are being changed.

The lead artisan, Eunice, is the main jewelry maker as well as a designer. Once unemployed, after losing her job as a social worker, she is now moving up through the company. She enjoys her work as it allows her to be creative.

How proud she must be to be earning an income from creating these stylish studs earrings, forged from recycled brass.

There is something beautifully symbolic here. Because of Christ’s love for us, He submitted to go through the flames in our place. And through this redemption, we have been repurposed from a life of sin without God, to an abundant life restored to the Father.

We reflect this love when we remember the oppressed and the downtrodden. We can show marginalized women around the world that they are loved, not forgotten, when we do something as simple as give them our business.

Market Tote Bag | Day 6 | 12 Days Shopping Fair Trade

January 25, 2020 by Sarah Neufeld Leave a Comment

I am going to be transparent here for a minute. I am terrible at remembering to bring reusable bags with me to the grocery store…

I’ve never been a fan of the big boxy plastic ones, that for some reason always have bits of dried onion peel at the bottom.

I’ve realized that I need a system that I can run on autopilot.

Enter in the fair trade market tote bags from Mercy House Global!

What’s perfect about these bags is they fold up neatly, making them quite compact.

For myself, I can say I will be forgetting my bags far less if I always have a few of these in my purse!

They are also extremely versatile. Bags like these also lend themselves as a library book bag, winter hat & mittens catch-all, gym bag, diaper bag, sewing bag, anything really.

This bundle comes in a variety of bold and colourfully patterned fabrics. All of these bags are fair trade and help Kenyan women provide for their families.

Beyond the fact that they are functional and versatile, these bags serve as a tangible reminder to be intentionally grateful, and to take advantage of every opportunity to share these women’s stories.

You can use your voice for the voiceless in the glorious mundane.

If you have any concerns to the quality and durability of these totes, you can head over to Mercy House Global Online Marketplace and read the 28 customer reviews (all 5 star)!

🛍: $18USD

Fair Trade Scrunchies | 12 Days Shopping Fair Trade | Day 2

January 22, 2020 by Sarah Neufeld Leave a Comment

I’m going to be honest with you. Every time I see a scrunchie, I’m transported back to 1995.

In our bathroom, my mother kept a tin full of scrunchies. For every colour, every pattern, every textile, there was one in there! And over 20 years later, they’re back, my friend! But here’s what makes these Fair Trade Scrunchies a little more “extra.”

These ones, from Mercy House Global, can be worn in 3 different ways making these hair accessories super versatile! Wear them as a regular scrunchie, a scrunchie with a cute tie, or pull you hair back with the tie alone.

Best of all, each one is hand-sewn by a rescued teen in Kenya. With the purchase of every scrunchie, you are empowering a young mother, a survivor of one of the worst slums in the world, with a transferable skill, dignified employment and an incredible hope for the future!

Why I became an Ambassador for Mercy House Global

December 29, 2019 by Sarah Neufeld Leave a Comment

“There’s always someone out there worse off than you are.”

Her eyes were watery. Her boney hand, that held mine, was shaking. She didn’t often speak to me in such an earnest and imploring way. That’s probably why I’ve never forgotten my 80 year-old grandmother’s words.

The message is universal.

At varying levels, we all know it to be true. Everyone is struggling with something, yet there is always someone out there who is feeling the hurt and hardship more than we are.

The question is this:

“What are you going to do about it?“

When I started learning about this non-profit organization called Mercy House, I was impressed. After all, they rescue little pregnant girls out of the worst slum in the world.

They love them, and support them through their healing, education and vocational training. These little girls, victims of rape & human trafficking, become mothers and grow into empowered young women full of hope and promise.

Then, after a few years of following Kristen Welch’s blog, We Are That Family, I found myself reading her posts from Kenya with fresh eyes and a renewed perspective.

A perspective that was actively mindful of a Grandmother’s words to remember those who carry burdens greater than mine.

I began to sponsor a Rehema House Graduate in 2016.

I didn’t know then that I would become a founding ambassador with Mercy House Global. That I would be on my knees begging for the Lord to grant me this opportunity.

I didn’t know that I would spend most of 2019 making contacts and using social media to draw awareness to the marginalized & oppressed women of this fallen world; or that I would be advocating for fair trade.

But then again, who ever really knows where life is taking them?

The 14 year old girl, burning with her own hurt, taking to heart the words of her elder, certainly never knew that 20 years later she would be advocating for mothers her own age.

And so, I make this appeal.

I made it on Giving Tuesday. And friend, just watch me in 2020!

Please take time to watch this video and hear the stories of living redemption.

Please help Mercy House Global meet their year-end fundraising goal by following this link, and make a donation of your choice.

God bless, friend!
