Back in February, I had this vision of women coming together in spirit to pray for our land, our government and our fellow Canadians. I saw a network of women connected with the same purpose. And so, Women Praying for Canada was born.
To impart the vision for the ministry with you, let me share a few verses with you.
In the Book of Esther, Mordecai counselled his younger cousin, Queen Esther, on the consequences of remaining silent; specifically at a time when her people were facing persecution and death.
Then, he said this to her:
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
I want the words “royal position” to strengthen you.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
When we received salvation, we came into a royal position of our own. We joined the royal priesthood with Jesus Christ as our High Priest.
And it is Jesus who represents us before God as blameless and holy.
At such a time as this, in Canadian history, we need to take our position seriously and reverently.
And so, we pray in the manner that the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy:
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
